I am honored to be selected for the Editor-in-Chief of the CosmoDerma (CSDM) position, a publication of Scientific Scholar. I am privileged to be working with an outstanding and erudite editorial team of the highest caliber under the direct guidance of Dr. Vikram Dogra. My previous experience as an editor in chief with five journals, including the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology, will help me to further the aspirations of CSDM. This is an excellent opportunity to further the cause of cosmetology, cosmetic dermatology, aesthetic medicine, aesthetic surgery, dermatosurgery, and dermatology.

The field of cosmetic dermatology, aesthetic medicine, and aesthetic surgery has gained tremendous interest worldwide. The significant advantage of recent years is the high scientific levels of the essential new imaging techniques, drug therapy, and other nonsurgical approaches. Botox injections, laser hair removal, hyaluronic acid filler injections, microdermabrasion, and chemical peels are the top five nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. The focus in dermatology is shifting gradually from diseased skin to desired skin which people prefer. Hence, the journal CosmoDerma gives cosmetology its due place.

The information era is upon us. The availability of print journals in the COVID 19 era has become an issue due to travel and transport restrictions. The Internet has become a part of daily life, bringing the latest and wide-ranging information to everyone’s fingertips. Medical publishing has also transformed into a digital format. The days of submitting double-spaced typed manuscripts and glossy pictures are no longer there. Understanding the current literature and advances requires other media components like digital images, videos, and audio clips. Keeping in line with modern advancements, CSDM will be launched as a Web-based medical journal.

Medical knowledge should be available to more than a privileged few. We, at CSDM, strongly support and contribute to the belief that everyone has a right to comprehensive, up-to-date medical information. We are convinced that such information must be available at no cost to all readers. CSDM will be an open-access peer-reviewed journal with a global presence, allowing medical articles to be freely downloaded without the need for any society affiliations anywhere in the world. As a new journal, we have decided to “Go Green” from day one. CSDM will be an entirely paperless online journal.

It is common knowledge that it can take anywhere from six months to a year from submission to publication of a scientific article in print media. We believe that for dissemination of time- relevant information, this is too long. CSDM intends to shrink this to less than six weeks, thereby making available online the cutting-edge research and innovations in cosmetology, aesthetic medicine, dermatosurgery, aesthetic surgery, lasers, imaging techniques, newer advances in dermatology, instruments, and innovations to a worldwide reader forum before the information gets superseded due to delayed dissemination.

The journal’s motto is “Share, Learn, and Improve.” We are tremendously excited that we have an opportunity to enhance our readers’ learning experience. We hope to achieve this by harnessing the power that can be drawn from today’s information age. CSDM will be the medium through which we plan to share new cosmetic dermatology developments, in simple, convenient, and most importantly, current manner. Our only hope is that the spread of the CSDM readership and knowledge exchange process will lead to genuine advances in cosmetic dermatology and its practical applications. We shall endeavor to present all aspects of this exciting science of cosmetic dermatology, aesthetic medicine, and aesthetic surgery in a manner that practitioners can comprehend and translate into practice, leading to better health for all.

CSDM will strictly follow and adhere to the international guidelines and the code of conduct set for medical publications.

CSDM will accept articles in the following categories – editorial (with the consent of editor), commentaries, living legends, brief reports, original articles, review articles, case reports, images/instruments in dermatology/dermatosurgery, innovations, tropical dermatology, looking back in history (of diseases/institution/society/association), resident forum, spot the diagnosis, letters to the editor, obituary and recent advances (in cosmetic dermatology, aesthetic medicine, aesthetic surgery, dermatosurgery, imaging technology) and perspective. We are open to new and novel ideas from our readers and will welcome any suggestions to make CSDM more comprehensive, relevant, and a leader in its field.

I look forward with enthusiasm to sharing and exchanging ideas, thoughts, and information with every one of you.

With best wishes,
